Coaching Staff

The coaches you’ll be studying under at The Golf College are outstanding in their field. The Golf College is delighted to include Master Professional Denis Pugh, who coached Colin Montgomerie to eight European Tour Order of Merit wins, Founder and Head Coach Paul Lyons, and our coaches Matthew Ellis, Jason Gilroy, Alan Dean, Tim Spence and Sarah Murray. Charles Ledger & Jack Bado join the team at The Golf College as Year Group coaches and are both PGA Professionals with Jack a former student.


Each of the coaches at The Golf College has a distinct speciality. Matthew is a PGA Golf Professional with his speciality being “Golf IQ”. Tim’s focus is on Tournament Organisation. Jason’s speciality is Short Game with a focus on Putting. Alan is our Head Teacher & certified fitness instructor with an emphasis on strength and conditioning. Sarah’s role is Pastoral Care & Student Counsellor ensuring that every student is working towards their goals.

	Denis Pugh The college’s master professional gained professional recognition as the coach of eight time European tour Order of Merit winner Colin Montgomerie. Denis is coach to Ross Fisher and fellow Ryder Cup 2010 players and World Cup winners 2009, Francesco and Edoardo Molinari. His is a regular pundit on Sky Sports Golf Show.		Paul Lyons Paul Lyons is a former tour player and the man behind the college. He was voted PGA South Region coach of the year 2007 and is the former coach to the Sussex under 16 squad. Paul has recently qualifed as a TPI Level 1 Instructor. Paul is also the main contact for incoming students.
	Matt Ellis Matthew has been described as ‘unique’ in his field. His is a fully qualified PGA golf coach with a BSc (hons) in Sport Science and an MSc in Sport Psychology. Matthew has won the Welsh PGA Championship and the Glenmuir British Club Professional Championship.		Jason Gilroy Jason specialises in putting and has coached a number of tour players including Michael Campbell, Benn Barham, James Heath and Simon Khan. Jason is member of the PGA and is also a past Sussex County Player.
	Alan Dean Alan specialises in screening golfers in the Titleist Performance Institute (TPI) to address physical limitations within an individual’s swing development. He is a TPI Certified Fitness Instructor (Level 1), Strength & Conditioning Specialist and has a long history of coaching successful youths in both individual and team sports. Alan also delivers the Education on site.		Tim Spence Tim is a former Challenge and European Tour Player and still plays actively in the Southern Region. He is currently the coach for the Sussex County Union, working with both the First Team and U21′s.
	Sarah Murray Sarah has recently joined the team and works closely with the students. She is a certified sports psychologist and is working with both elite and non elite teams and athletes and coaches to enhance performance through an athlete-centred approach.		Charles Ledger Charles is a former player on tours in Asia, South Africa, Australia and The Challenge Tour. After coaching at National Level in Asia, Sweden and Norway, he has returned to the UK and with his passion for coaching to a high level, joins the Team at The Golf College.
	Jack Bado Jack is a former student at The Golf College who graduated in 2009 and is our latest addition to the Team. He is an active player on the PGA South Region Tour.
