Faldo Series Success for The Golf College

Tom Aspital, a student at The Golf College, claimed the fourth Faldo Series UK Championship of the season at Royal Ashdown Forest earlier this week. Aspital’s victory came at the second hole of a play-off against Alasdair Dalgliesh, a former student of The Golf College which is based at Lindfield Golf Club.

Aspital led at the end of day one after equalling the course record of 67. In windy conditions on the second day Aspital carded 77 allowing Dalgliesh, with rounds of 72 on both days, to catch him. In the play-off 18-year old Aspital birdied the second extra hole to clinch both the Boys’ Under-21 division and the overall victory.

Aspital’s reward is a place in the Faldo Series Europe Grand Final at Lough Erne, Northern Ireland in September.

“This was my first course record and my first play-off win so I’m delighted,” said Aspital, “I can’t wait to play the world class course at Lough Erne”.

The Golf College students also saw success in the Under-18 division with Chris Aubrey (148) and Luke Robinson (149) taking the runner-up and third place positions respectively.

These latest successes follow Jonathan Bell’s 2009 victory in the worldwide Faldo Series Grand Final, held that year in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

The Golf College, based at Lindfield Golf Club near Haywards Heath in Sussex, develops students’ playing abilities whilst they study for an Advanced Apprenticeship in Golf, the equivalent of 2 ‘A’ Levels.
