Sammy Fuller just misses the luck o' the Irish
Excitement and trepidation consumed Roganstown Golf and Country Club for the final round of the Irish Girls Open Strokeplay Championship.
In an international field Golf College student Sammy Fuller was in the midst of the action shooting consistent rounds of 73, 73 to place herself in joint third going into the final round.
Overnight leader, Isabella Holpfer (Austria) was two shots clear of her closest competitors going in to the final round. However, two bogeys and a double bogey on the front nine cost the Austrian player her leading position. Low scores prevailed from the chasing pack as Olivia Mehaffey (Royal County Down Ladies) shot level par, 71 to take the clubhouse lead for a mere moment. Samantha Fuller (England) was in full form as she made her only birdie of the day on 18, holing a 10 foot putt to card a one over par 72 and find herself in a sudden death playoff.
Olivia and Samantha resumed play a short time later on the par 3, 9th hole where both players carded pars. Adrenalin was pumping as Olivia overshot the long par 5, 10th in two but chipped dead to inside two feet to secure her birdie 4. She is crowned the Irish Girls Open Champion for the third consecutive year.
